So Nov. 16 I had a rare day off with nothing more to do than frolic in these streets with A. Reese. She had a few hours to kill before jetting off to paradise so we made a plan to pop up at the Warby Parker Class Trip pop-up showroom at Woodrow Wilson Plaza. Stay tuned for an epic post about that adventure.
A. Reese says: “Wear something blog worthy.”
I say: “But of course.”
Enter my sequin dilemma…
I love sequins y’all. And by love, I mean would wear them all day every day, ya know? I lucked up on this top for FREE as a “thanks for volunteering” gift about a year ago. And while I loved the colors and the mint condition of this silk and beaded halter-style top when I first laid eyes on it, I’ve been stymied for months about how to make it work.
And my lack of an idea meant that the top’s time was running out — it was coming up on its expiration date. I have a strict rule that I live by so that my closet doesn’t overflow with stuff I don’t wear…if I haven’t worn it in a year, it’s gotta go.
But low and behold inspiration struck. After one of my marathon conversations with A. Reese, my creative juices started flowing and, eureka, I figured out how to turn my challenge into opportunity. The rest is thifty fashion history.
First things first. I needed a way to make this work. This halter-style top would have worked on its own in the summer, but its cold outchea! So enter, my trusty white button down shirt. A workhorse staple of my wardrobe.
Once the dilemma of how to turn this halter top into a weather appropriate shirt was solved, the ideas flowed faster than hot chocolate sauce.

So many ideas and just one little old me :-(. The possibilities are endless and even, dare I say it, work appropriate.
You’ll have to stay tuned to see which outfit I chose for our photo shoot at the Warby Parker pop-up. The suspense is killing you right?
Until next time…
Keep it thrifty,
— M. Ricks
