So the title of this post is random, which probably is a word that best describes my style. The title also is exactly what some lady said really loudly as I was strutting through the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to catch a connecting flight.
Reese and I maintain that we don’t have personal styles in the traditional sense, but I’ve been able to nail down a few fashion constants that I’m probably going to be here for always.
Mad for plaid: Excuse my pajama bottoms, but get into this plaid! I didn’t go to Catholic school, or any school for that matter that required any kind of uniform, but I think I’ve loved plaid since I was a kid. It makes me happy. Nuff said.
Bold, funky, ethnic-looking accessories: I like to travel and when I’m not traveling, I like to look like I’ve shopped somewhere cool and other-worldly.
Watches: I love a good timepiece. Old school, new school, real deal, knock off. I love them all.
Feminine blouses: I love soft, billowing blouses made out of light materials with bows, pleats, ruffles and beautiful buttons that move with me. They give a feminine touch to even the toughest look.
Bold bright colors and neon: I don’t much follow trends, but I so fell in love with the neon trend last year and I’m so going to rock it long after its gone. *kanyeshrug*
Long skirts: I don’t know if I’m channeling Little House on the Prairie or what, but I really like long skirts that are just shy of maxi.
Jackets/Blazers: Whenever I want an outfit to look more pulled together I grab my fitted denim jacket or a great tailored blazer. Jackets just make everything look better.
A spectacle in spectacles: I know wearing glasses is all the rage with the kids today, but some of us are truly blind and actually need them to see. I’ve worn glasses since I was in fourth grade, but I’m so glad that today’s options look nothing like what I rocked back in the day.
Chuck Taylor All Stars: I only have one pair, but my wants list inside my head is probably filled with every color conceivable. I wear these dressed down with jeans, or dressed up with my favorite plaid skirt, a blazer and a cummerbund to church. My love affair with these kicks are that serious.
Just so this post won’t be stupid longer than it already is I’ll just tell you that I am also here for sequins, hats, skulls and crossbones, studs, a popped collar, pencil skirts, ultra feminine dress, cummerbunds, sweater vests, neckties and crossbody bags…WHEW!
Keep it thrifty,
— Ricks
