Today was the most awesome Presidents’ Day ever. We were invited to participate in a focus group at B-thrifty in Woodbridge, VA. Now, for those of you who don’t know, B-thrifty is easily one of our top three thrift stores. In fact, our first blog post was about our first adventure there. We consistently find excellent pieces there at reasonable prices, so when they sent an email to all their BIP members asking for volunteers, we enthusiastically replied within ten minutes.
The way it worked was in exchange for our feedback about ways the store can be improved, we were each given $20 gift certificates to spend as we pleased…and since it is Presidents’ Day there’s a 50% off sale going on. #WINNING!
By and large, we were impressed by the quality of conversation and feedback that was presented today. B-thrifty is obviously interested in making sure their customers are satisfied as evidenced by the management’s willingness to let the 17 of us who attended call out the good, the bad, and the ugly about the store. Pilar and Celina patiently listened to us talk about how the store could be organized for better functionality, how much we love the customer service, and what we thought about the store moving toward a boutique model (which almost everyone opposed). They took notes and asked us to complete surveys. Once it was all done, they provided yummy food for all who attended.
What impressed us most about this process was learning more about the philanthropic arm of B-thrifty. Though it isn’t a non-profit, B-thrifty invests in the surrounding community. Every Tuesday, the store gives away 2,000 articles of children’s clothing for free to anyone who comes…no questions asked. Once a month, they partner with the Salvation Army and the National Food Bank to give away fresh fruits and vegetables…again no questions asked.
Once the formal focus group was over, Pilar and Salena sat with us and another blogger to talk about collaborations and events. We can’t share all the details just yet, but just know that the Too Thrifty Chicks will be turning this city out in the coming months! We’re excited about our new collaborations with B-thrifty and the possibilities of collaborating with our new friend, Julie who runs the Food, Laughter, and Happily Ever After blog. She has amazing recipes and DIY projects on her blog, so please check her out!
While you’re sitting on the edge of your seat waiting to hear news about collaborations, check out some of the fabulous finds from today. We left out of the store with a total of 19 items between us for less than $35. Impressive! ::dusts off shoulders::
