Flirty Florals: Spring Time is Here!

It is the most wonderful time of the year — SPRING! And we are so about it. After a long, long winter layered under black and gray it’s time for a little skin and a whole lot of color.

And what better way to introduce color and look blooming good than to break out your favorite floral prints? Right now we’re loving these really comfy pants in vibrant floral prints that we picked up on our trip to NYC. These pants are so light and comfortable that it’s like wearing pajama pants in public, but they’re super stylish and won’t get you the stink eye because…well…you have your pajamas on in public. Floral prints are apparently the “in” thing this season, but we’ll probably rock these long after the cherry blossoms are gone.

We each picked up a pair at Uniqlo for under $10 a piece! Crazy right? Ricks went for a pair of the most colorful ones she could find in the store, while Reese opted for a more subtle color palatte. In addition to these great affordable finds, Ricks lucked up on an amazing pair of flowered pants at a thrift store in Brooklyn called Junk. She added some elastic to the bottom and presto! Instant on trend and fly for about $8.

Because of all the colors in the pattern of the pants, the possibilities are endless. We dressed them and dressed them down. Check out how we work.

Style Notes: Feelin’ Flighty

This shirt grabbed my attention: the colors, the birds, the “this looks like it should be worn by a 60-year-old man on a Hawaiian beach” feel. I thought the shirt was ugly….and by itself, I still think it is (cue Shug Avery’s line to Celie in the Color Purple: “You sho is ugly!”). With a little imagination and styling, however, you can make [almost] anything cute (after all, Celie did grow into her own beauty).

To give it a little flare, I rolled the sleeves and pinned them. Then I button the shirt halfway and tied the bottom. I love this shirt paired with a black high waist skirt, yellow flats, a thrifted watch, and bracelets made by a friend’s mom.  Kinda feelin’ the birds even more today. Gives the outfit a whimsical feel…perfect for a mild fall day!

Sidenote: I’m thinking about making a bandeau top out of this shirt…hmmm…stay tuned!

How do you style “ugly” items?
