Swap it Out!

IMG_9863When in doubt, swap it out.

Spring is quickly giving way to summer, and you already know that in addition to it being toe-out season, it also is spring-summer dress season. Spending money for new-to-us dresses is something we’ll avoid if we can and nothing was more true for us this Easter.

I know you’re all like,  “But Thrifty Chicks, Easter was months ago. Why are we talking about what you wore from way back then?”
Well, because we’re rusty at this blogging thing and because any time is a good time to swap it out. Whether it’s Easter or some other occasion where you want to look cute without cost, swapping can be an even thriftier option than actual thrifting.IMG_9883

Swapping can be as easy as asking to “shop” a friend’s closet, or it can be a more
formal meet-up where everyone brings something to an agreed upon location to swap with everyone else. In fact, it’s a great way to clean out your closet and replenish it at the same time.

Instead of buying new dresses for Easter, we swapped. Our friend Tasha gifted  this fitted floral number to Ricks, and Ricks gifted a yellow frock to Reese. New fashion for each of us. Zero cost.

Chucks & Cupcakes

What do you get when you put together a birthday, cupcakes, chucks, and laughter? A jolly good time! We celebrated our friend’s birthday with a fantastically ridiculous photoshoot featuring our favorite sneakers. The bad side of such shenanigans? R&R drooling all over the converse website when we got home. No worries Operation Do Better friends. We refrained from purchasing new sneakers (after all, this is a want and not a need, right?), BUT when it’s time to celebrate another milestone, we already have pairs picked out.

This post doesn’t need a lot of words….the photos speak for themselves.

Who shows up with an Ikea bag full of chucks? This chick does! Had to be at least 25 pair.

T with her pile of chucks…check out the custom made ones! *swoon*

Chucks and Cupcakes

It’s cold in DC today, but Ricks definitely looks like Spring. Color and more color! Put away your drab clothes and pull out the fun ones!

Feeling a little flighty with the pale pink shorts w/birds on them. Paired with flowery sunglasses and this girl is ready to take on Spring.

Quick! Blow out the candles that aren’t lit! (lol) Happy Birthday Nikki!

Chucks and Cupcakes4

If someone has a chocolate allergy it’s reasonable to assume she wouldn’t eat chocolate right? Wrong! This chick tried to be sneaky and snag a bite before anyone noticed…but the evidence is on her face! CAUGHT! (btw–she’s not being sentimental. Those tears are from laughing so hard!)

Nikki, you’re fierce and fabulous. You have to learn how to growl. ROOOOAAAAARRRRRR!

Chucks and Cupcakes3

Red velvet cupcake to match the red chucks she got for her birthday. YUMMMMM! Nikki B. is all smiles and so were we. 🙂

Chucks and Cupcakes2

The birthday girl loves her car and her chucks…put them together and she’s in heaven!

Chucks and Cupcakes6

::singing:: Friends….how many of us have them?

Chucks and Cupcakes7

Look at this awesome collage. This is the only way to show you all the pics at once…LOL.

We had so much fun celebrating Nikki’s birthday…and nearly 500 photos to prove it. Have a friend who has a birthday coming up? Celebrate her in  a way that reflects who she is. We did, and we’ve got some fun memories to show for it. Happy birthday Nikki B.! We hope you have a fantastic birthday filled with laughs, love, and light!

xoxo

Flirty Florals: Spring Time is Here!

It is the most wonderful time of the year — SPRING! And we are so about it. After a long, long winter layered under black and gray it’s time for a little skin and a whole lot of color.

And what better way to introduce color and look blooming good than to break out your favorite floral prints? Right now we’re loving these really comfy pants in vibrant floral prints that we picked up on our trip to NYC. These pants are so light and comfortable that it’s like wearing pajama pants in public, but they’re super stylish and won’t get you the stink eye because…well…you have your pajamas on in public. Floral prints are apparently the “in” thing this season, but we’ll probably rock these long after the cherry blossoms are gone.

We each picked up a pair at Uniqlo for under $10 a piece! Crazy right? Ricks went for a pair of the most colorful ones she could find in the store, while Reese opted for a more subtle color palatte. In addition to these great affordable finds, Ricks lucked up on an amazing pair of flowered pants at a thrift store in Brooklyn called Junk. She added some elastic to the bottom and presto! Instant on trend and fly for about $8.

Because of all the colors in the pattern of the pants, the possibilities are endless. We dressed them and dressed them down. Check out how we work.
